Building Confidence as a Parent of Special Needs
Many parents feel intimidated by their local schools, teachers, pediatricians, therapists, or professionals. Parents often feel that because they don’t have a related degree or have careers in the field, they’re less knowledgeable. Let’s understand the truth behind these institutions and how you, the parent, are ultimately the one with the best credentials. We will also explore how your God-given responsibility can help you build confidence as you continue to homeschool.
Biblically Homeschooling in a Secular World
Did you begin homeschooling because you wanted to raise your kids with a biblical perspective on the world? Are you still doing that? Many parents have reverted to a more secular perspective on education, but now it’s affecting their homes. This talk will explore why we’re forgetting our first love and how the secular world has manipulated us to think as they do. I also share how to avoid presenting a watered-down gospel in our curricula, what a solidly-biblical curriculum should look like, and practical ways we can get back on track. (Faith-Based Presentation)
The Gift of ADHD in the Homeschooling Home
ADHD is a very common diagnosis, but it does come with a lot of baggage. Let’s talk about what ADHD is, how it can present differently in every child, and how we can help modify, adjust, and create their curriculum and environment to help them thrive. Most importantly, I will share how we can see this diagnosis not as a crutch, but as an opportunity to help our ADHD children excel.
How to Teach the Biblical High Holidays in a Christian Home
As a Messianic Believer, I’m asked over and over again, “How can I celebrate these holidays as a Christian?” There are so many resources out there, but many of them may forget the most important purpose of these holidays… Jesus. In this talk, I will share the practical and spiritual ways you can celebrate Pesach (The Feast of Passover), Yom Teruah (The Feast of Trumpets), Yom Kippur (The Day of Atonement), and Sukkot (The Festival of Booths). (Faith-Based Presentation)
Many of us have a hard time realizing just how much our thinking has been influenced by the public education system. In this talk, we’ll look at the history of public school education in America and how it has affected our thoughts and priorities. Once we recognize that the current model is not the be-all, end-all of education and that it’s something that has been an ongoing concern for less than 100 years, we can minimize the impact of such narrow philosophies in our homes and allow ourselves the freedom to broaden our approach and homeschool based on informed choices.
As a mom and former middle school teacher, I will share with you some insights that will change your attitude toward this precious group of kids. We will discuss how the middle-schooler’s brain works, what they are thinking and feeling, and how you can learn to enjoy these fleeting, emotional, but pivotal years with your kids. (Available as Faith-Based or Non Faith-Based Presentation)
